Mr. Joe is a Wylie ISD bus driver. And, according to any student you ask, he is family. Mr. Joe, and a hundred or so of his fellow drivers, will be picking up your kids on the first day of school. Don’t worry about the students’ safety; they are in good hands! If you are new to Wylie, you may be surprised to see how many students ride the bus. We take pride in our transportation department, and we are glad that we have earned the trust of our families.
Whether you are planning to bring your child to school for the first day or have him/her ride the bus, we will do our best to make the first day great. Patience is key; we appreciate you helping us by giving yourself enough time to get to school. Traffic will be extremely heavy, and buses run slower the first few days. There are many moving parts to making the first day a success. It is important to us that we make sure that every student is safely delivered to and from school.
BUS ROUTES
On August 1, we will have all of our bus routes online for the 2019-2020 school year. Please make sure you go online and check your bus stop and review the information with your child. If you have any questions, or if you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.
SAFETY WRISTBANDS
Sometimes our little ones need some extra help with getting safely on the correct bus. To aid in this process, we will provide every student in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade a color-coded wristband on the first day of school.
They will wear these wristbands for the first week to help students (and drivers/teachers) get used to bus routes. The wristbands will color-coordinate with the buses the children are scheduled to ride and will help them ensure they are in the right place. Below is a picture of what the wristbands will look like. If a child is not wearing a wristband, he/she will not be able to ride the bus.
BUS STOPS
All students in Kindergarten through second grade will be required to have a parent at the bus stop in order to be released to go home. If the parents cannot be at the stop, they must designate another person who will walk the child home. You can designate the person by giving a note to the school or transportation department before the first day of school.
TRACKING YOUR BUS?
Want to know where your bus is located? There’s an app for that. “Where’s the Bus” is a new app that is coming to our transportation department in mid-September.
This app will allow parents to follow their child’s bus, see exactly where it is located, and follow it all the way to the bus stop. You will know the exact times of when the bus will pick up or drop off your child. We will notify all parents when this app is live and ready to download.
