Every October, November and December Wylie ISD sets aside time to teach our kids the values of caring and giving. This includes supporting our local food bank, The Wylie Community Christian Care Center, with food and funds that support local families in need.
Food begins rolling in and students help pack and sort the items that will be picked up by ROTC students after the drive comes to a close.
There is so much to pick up, it takes two complete days with box trucks to deliver every donated item. Donations from this year broke all previous records. If you compare the donations from before we started focusing on the values of caring and giving, the difference is staggering. Our giving is amazing!
How Amazing? This Amazing!
Compare donations from 2009 to 2019, while the student population has increased more than 30% from 12,006 to 17,226, donations to feed the hungry exceed much more than 100%.
These are YOUR kids helping other kids that need us. When someone “Rides for the Brand,” they are committed to something larger than themselves. Our kids give back and care for others with these donations because they care about each other. I can’t speak for everyone, but I rate kids showing they care and give to others right up there with making an A in Algebra.
